Announcing the Department of Home Affairs (DHA)

Department of Home Affairs

As of 20 December 2017, Australian visa and citizenship services will be amalgamated into the newly formed Department of Home Affairs (DHA). The DHA replaces the previous Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

The DHA’s website can be viewed here, and supersedes the previous ‘Border’ website.

The DHA incorporates previously seperate government agencies, including the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, transport security and emergency services, as well as the department of immigration.

The DHA’s new organisational structure reflecting the functions of Home Affairs will be aligned and take effect in March 2018.

The Home Affairs portfolio will be fully established by July 2018, and is reported to result in a separation between the DHA and the Australian Border Force websites.
